FC_builder
A downloadable tool for Windows
FC_builder is a fun and easy-to-use tool for creating games that feel like they were made on the Famicube console, the missing link between the NES and the SNES. If you never heard of the Famicube console, that may may be because it never existed in reality - only in the imagination imagination of Swedish artist Arne Niklas Jansson (https://androidarts.com/palette/Famicube.htm). The FC_builder project is a tribute to the awesome work of Arne, making it easy to develop games that look and feel as if they were made on the Famicube !
FC_Builder has now reached the 1.0 version, but is still under active development. You can follow the development on https://twitter.com/fc_builder.
Specifications
The graphics and sound of games and programs made in FC_builder follow the specification of the Famicube console, with some creative license taken in areas where the original specification lacks detail:
- 320x240 resolution, with a fixed 64-color palette.
- Tile-based graphics
- Built-in 8x8 fonts for drawing text
- 6 audio channels for music and sound effects. A number of different waveforms (sine, square, triangle, saw, noise, custom wavetables) can be played on any channel.
Making games with FC_builder
FC_builder is an all-in-one environment for making Famicube styled games, and includes editors for sprites, maps, sounds, music and code. Games are written in the Lua programming language (https://www.lua.org/), using a simple but powerful API. Games can be exported as stand-alone Windows programs, to be shared with others.
